In this ring only 5% of the population of about 400,000 will be killed, but nearly half will be injured. There would be between 4,000 and 95,000 additional deaths from thermal radiation in this band (10 mile visibility). A 2 mile visibility would produce between 1,000 and 11,000 serious injuries, and many of these would subsequently die because adequate medical treatment would not be available.
